Meet the Doctor
Dr. Sarah J. Mowery is a 2008 graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry where she received her professional degree as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). She began her career in dentistry in college as an assistant in an orthodontic office, so to date she has 13 years of experience in the field. Her favorite thing about dentistry is the immediate gratification she can offer her patients. She states, "If you come to see me with a complaint of tooth pain, 9 out of 10 times I can fix it the same day and you walk out a happy and relieved patient!"
Dr. Mowery started her college career with a bachelors of science in biology from Butler University. This really means that whe
n it comes to sports, her heart belongs to the Indianapolis Colts and the Butler Bulldogs. However, her true love is soccer; she played all through high school and was selected for all-state honors her senior year.
Prior to college, Dr. Mowery's family was well-traveled. Her father is employed by the USDA, which took the family to the
far corners of the USA. She also has extended family scattered throughout the country so there were many long childhood car rides to visit and stay in touch. At the age of 14, her family settled permanently in Pendleton, Indiana. Her parents and her in-laws all still call the small town of Pendleton home, so the community of Antwerp feels very much like home as well.
The family practice setting is ideal for Dr. Mowery's professional goals; she loves to watch "her" kids grow into adults and thrive. She also appreciates family participation in dental health because her heart is with children; if everyone in the household is on board with good hygiene habits, healthy smiles come easily. She recalls, "So many times new adult patients come to the office with memories of traumatic experiences from their childhood and tell me 'After that, I never went back.' I want to change and prevent that with every family who walks through our doors!" Many dentists refer children out to pediatric specialists for all treatment, but Dr. Mowery loves to coach anxious children through their fears and have them leave with big, bright smiles on their faces!
Dr. Mowery has always worked well with kids, but since her two children were born, it has become more natural. Her daughters Annabelle (Anna) and Lilian (Lily) are 5 and 2 years old. Anna was pumped to start kindergarten this year! Her husband, Tyson, is very supportive of her choosen career. He himself has a degree in Computer Engineering from Purdue University so he has morphed into part-time IT speacialist/book-keeper and part-time stay-at-home daddy.
The Mowery family is glad to call the community of Antwerp their home for life!
